Middlesex’s Fran Wilson, who was hotly tipped for an international recall this summer following the retirement of Charlotte Edwards, is fighting to be fit for England’s Pakistan series, after suffering a freak injury during a warm up last weekend.
An ECB spokesperson told CRICKETher:
“Fran injured her right knee during the warm up of Middlesex’s match against Kent on 15th May. She’s undergoing treatment and a rehab programme at the moment, and her availability for selection for the Pakistan series will be assessed closer to the time.”
It doesn’t sound great, but friends of Wilson have told us that she is desperate not to miss out on what she knows could be her big break, and that she is still feeling optimistic that she will be back sooner rather than later, in time to push for selection against Pakistan.

Not good news and I reiterate my earlier comments injuries and circumstances could make MR decision for a brave new world seem flawed.
On plus side MR will potentially have to choose more players from the development squad or beyond.

England’s selection woes continue, it would seem. Wilson was a near-certainty for the upcoming ODI series which is now only just over 3 weeks away. Without her, England’s batting line up looks decidedly less solid.
Assuming the worst case scenario, that neither Taylor nor Wilson are available for the first Pakistan ODI, that will leave England with just 4 specialist batsmen – Beaumont, Greenway, Jones and Winfield. If they all play, can we rely on them to score say 150 runs? In addition we have the capable all-round batting back-up of of Elwiss, Knight and Sciver but overall it seems very thin on the ground to me.
This is why we really need to bring in the best Academy bats (who would seem to be Adams, E. Jones, Lamb and Luff although I gather the former is injured too). This could be an ideal opportunity for 1 or 2 of these players to make more of a name for themselves if MR gives them a chance. Which he may need to.
Talking of the Pakistan ODIs, can CRICKETher confirm or deny that ODI 1 at Leicester, on Mon 20 June, is a day/nighter starting at 2 pm? Seems strange, but both Leics CCC website and ESPN Cricinfo are saying it is.

Cool. We see a few evening T20 matches but d/n women’s ODIs are quite rare.
