  1. The few English players who are high up in the batting tables seem to fall into one of these categories: established England players (e.g. Sciver-Brunt), people who have played some internationals but not looked great (e.g. Dunkley), people whose international days are surely behind them (e.g. B Smith, Winfield-Hill), and county journeywomen who are surely too far into their career to expect a call up (e.g. Adams). After Syd and Raf’s piece on the intra-squad games in South Africa, can we now have a similar piece: 11 Things We Learned From The Hundred About England Batting Prospects!

  2. The squad was announced and I have to say the batting does look a little light. You could probably only call Bouchier and Grewcock (with the possible addition of Dean herself) as more “measured” players, the rest being mainly T20 hitters – will they have the patience to actually construct an innings and play for 50 overs? There’s also not much “spare” batting – It’s a good thing we’re playing Ireland and not one of the top few in this series. At least Dunkley and Kemp have both had quite good Hundred series and are capable of knuckling down in the longer format.

Good to see Potts in the squad and I hope she gets a game or two, same for Pavely. Don’t know why a few other batters have been left out.

Probable 1st ODI XI? Mine would be Bouchier, Dunkley, Capsey, Grewcock, Kemp, Chathli, Gibson, Dean, TCC, Potts, Filer.
