Perhaps a matter for your next Podcast ……….
England are due to play Afghanistan in an ODI World Cup match on 15th October – should they, given they refused to play South Africa over apartheid, or is this a case of colour matters but gender does not ?
Australia verses Afghanistan on 7th November is even more interesting. Australia refused to play Afghanistan in an ODI series due in March this year and Nick Hockley (chief of Cricket Aus) stated “basic human rights is not politics”. I’m guessing therefore Australia will refuse to play Afghanistan ?
Is the reality that in cricket money comes first, then basic human rights ?
If the above is true, what does that say about the moral standing of cricket (on the one hand spouting off about the spirit of cricket as if it has virtue whilst on the other pouring money into and propping up gender discrimination ?
{I didn’t insert the word “Men’s” before “ODI World Cup in the sentence “England are due to play Afghanistan in the ODI World Cup” because it is impossible for England to play Afghanistan in a Women’s ODI World Cup]
