Heather Knight is so ECB Media trained that most of her interviews have been and are going to be pretty boring.
The BBC quoted her as saying “There are plenty of learnings we can take from this” – yep, that’s straight out the section in the ECB Manual marked “What trivia to roll out when you’ve been stuffed”. Readers may wish to replace the word “trivia” with something stronger.
It also jars against the fact that she (apparently) pointed out that there isn’t a plan to play another Test in India – so how are you going to use all that learning (unless of course the main learning point was that they’ve concluded its not a good idea to play a Test in India)
Its a shame because Heather is more than capable of stringing together appropriate informative sentences, but chooses not to.
Oh wow, if we’re treating Test matches as T20 World Cup practice matches then we deserve every hammering we get, frankly. Very bizarre comments from HK, whatever happened to the cherished “bucket list” opportunity!? The WC trophy cabinet has had nothing but cold wind blowing through it for over half a decade now. As an England fan a Test match victory or two would be a great recompense; I’m afraid those bilateral series wins just don’t mean as much (except the Ashes …which has a Test match!!) , so it’s disheartening to hear the captain reflect in those terms. I’d just like to hear the leadership front up once in a while and admit they made poor choices, for goodness sake!
Excited for the India v Aus match, I don’t think I’d go as far as naming India favourites but certainly in with a shout. They’ll surely want to do again what they just did which means Australia will have a good idea as to their plans and form and can prepare accordingly, and also presumably Aus will approach it as an actual Test match with intrinsic value as opposed to a free wheeling ‘go hard’ experiment or whatever England were doing.
Hey, I don’t know if you’ve been watching the NZ v Pakistan series but shout out to Fatima Sana captaining her country in the 2nd ODI and nearly getting them over the line, 90* AND taking a couple of wickets to boot. A heroic performance, and graceful and inspiring in her media interviews. Leadership matters!
Totally agree with your comments on Heather Knight’s presser. It was weird.
England need to realize that what is written about them is not always true. They are no longer top of the pile and their lack of consistency will continue to cause them to slide. Australia may have run the Ashes “close to the wind” but still have them and will continue to keep them until England settle on a team and stick to it. Aussies have a top 16 players and they play every format. England are chopping and changing players. Dunkley, although talented should not have played against India. They had the cover with Danni to open and Capsey at 5 and a spinner.
BTW with the WPL auction did you miss Kate Cross to RCB. Lack of research or an axe to grind? She also loves India and I’m sure was disappointed last time.

“Lack of research or an axe to grind” – neither – promise! We were tight on time and decided just to talk about Danni and Chamari.

Geez how long does it take to say “Kate Cross 30000laht” you managed to say Boyce a less known player than Crossy! There were only three of them.
Regardless love your honest assessments of the seemingly debarkle that at the moment is English cricket.
