    • Indeed, she’s a much-loved figure for her achievements at domestic and international level. There’s plenty of evidence to suggest she was an excellent captain, at a challenging time of Australian dominance that she couldn’t have been expected to change much on her own. There’s a nice piece on her over on Cricinfo that also reminds us how hard a job the England captaincy can be.

Maybe the days of the all-formats captain are numbered? That may just be too big a task now, and there seems little reason to insist the same player must lead in all formats.

How do we feel about how the ECB will handle the next steps? Will the (interim) captain(s) be announced first or will the new head coach come in, and possibly get a say on who it will be?

  1. “Waggy’s bag is more Goochie” – not a bad comparison given he was a brilliant opener and not a bad captain !
