Yes I thought exactly the same the moment I heard the ‘team in transition’ quote. How exactly are they transitioning from one state to another? The only explanation I can get is that there might be efforts being made to improve the players’ fielding under pressure and their ability to play spin while batting. I will leave it up to the users of this site to make their own mind up as to whether progress is being made! Regarding your comments on the struggles of Essex and Somerset, it only reinforces my observation that all levels of the domestic women’s game are increasingly riding on the coat tails of the men’s game. The two T1 counties you mention as struggling are the only two that don’t host the England men’s team at their county ground. Only first-class counties were allowed to apply for T2, and my own personal experiences of the club game are that it is becoming increasingly difficult to prosper if you aren’t based at a big men’s club. Is this the way we want things to go, but how can we change it if we answer No to that question?
