EXCLUSIVE: Katie George And Charis Pavely Sign Contract Extensions With Warwickshire

Warwickshire all-rounders Katie George and Charis Pavely have signed contract extensions with the club, which will keep the pair at Edgbaston until the end of the 2028 season.

Left-arm seamer George has struggled with injuries over the past couple of years but has fully earned her spot as a pure batter, with highest scores of 98 and 127 from the No 4 position in the One-Day Cup this season. After she returned to bowling for London Spirit during The Hundred, there are hopes she can find some stability as a genuine all-round option over the next two years.

The 21-year-old Pavely was better known for her left-arm spin until this season, but struck back-to-back hundreds in the One-Day Cup in April / May and is now firmly established as an all-rounder in the side. She recently earned an England call-up for their upcoming series v Ireland.

George told CRICKETher: “I’ve been at Edgbaston for a while with the Sparks and then Warwickshire, so it definitely feels like home. I’m grateful that I’ve been given the opportunity here to shift into a bit more of a batting all rounder, and be allowed the space and be given the confidence to do that.”

The news will be welcomed amid a period of transition for the club which has seen current captain Georgia Davis placed on “gardening leave” until her contract runs out at the end of the season, Em Arlott agreeing to join Yorkshire, and Abbey Freeborn and Bethan Ellis departing for Glamorgan this winter.

George was this week named as interim captain until the end of the season, overseeing the end of the County Cup and the final few rounds of the One-Day Cup, but says that no decision has been made about who will lead the club come 2027.

George told CRICKETher: “We don’t know what the plan is through the winter. My role is very clear: I’m going to get us through the next month. My plan for that is to try and have that calm presence in a little bit of turmoil.

“It’s important we come together as a team and we’re in it together, and have that collective goal of trying to win these trophies.”

      • The announcement was made with the approval of the club who understand that the optics of their current captain leaving are not great, especially when she has been there for her whole career and it appears has been released after questioning the commitment of the club to the women’s team. I believe the lack of a 2nd team and S&C over the winter were cited. Basically sticking up for the team.

Were Glamorgan or the players leaving consulted about the announcement? If Glamorgan have not announced it, there must be a reason e.g. protecting players who are playing for contracts this season or the players. Why did Warwickshire not announce it officially ? Those players have been there a while. Just appears disrespectful to both Glamorgan and the players involved.
