Great podcast again!
A few comments on the Sixers
1 – You’re quite right, Perry is down on form/impact with ball, and to an extent, bat. Gets bogged down too often
2 – There’s an AFL maxim that a team is only as strong as it’s 5 or 6 weakest players, and that’s true for the Sixers. A really top notch top 4 – 5 (including Ash Gardner, who is not yet the finished article), but they fall away really quickly after that. Aside from Erin Burns and the (apparently retiring) Sarah Aley, the rest are making up the numbers ATM. Lauren Cheatle’s return will help… But they need new blood, and a new strategy that doesn’t depend on Healy blasting them to victory
3 – You get a sense of some confusion and perhaps disagreement behind the scenes. Non-registered Playergate is a sign of that. And clusters of basic fielding mistakes are usually a classic sign of a distracted or confused team
Those that play like proper teams – Stars this year, Heat for a while now – are showing them up.
Heat to win for mine, but any of the top 4 could do it really. Very even and excellent competition this year. Despite the weather
And a final thought – the future of Australian cricket debuted this year – Darcie Brown should be a star for years to come. Genuine pace, great action. As she builds up strength and consistency she could be anything. And hopefully will be the best pace bowler since Cathryn Fitzpatrick. I’m calling it
